CPSA Statement in Support of the of the Black Canadian Studies Association (BCSA)

In response to the experience of Shelby McPhee, a member of the Black Canadian Studies Association (BCSA) at the recent meetings of Congress held at the University of British Columbia (UBC), and following the motions approved by the Canadian Political Science Association (CPSA) AGM (June 5) and its Board of Directors (June 6), the CPSA would like to publicly articulate our support for our colleagues in the BCSA and denounce all forms of racism, racial profiling, discrimination and harassment at Congress. We will also continue to push the Federation of Humanities and Social Sciences to develop a set of policies and processes with appropriately trained staff to ensure the Code of Conduct is enforced. We are committed to working toward greater diversity and equity in the political science profession in Canada, and will work with other societies and disciplines to ensure that academic spaces are welcoming and safe for all scholars.
